An ignition transformer is a step-up transformer that converts standard 120V line voltage to a high-voltage output (typically 10,000–17,500V) to create the spark energy needed to ignite oil and gas burners. They are standard on oil burner systems and some gas burner direct spark ignition systems. Allanson and Dongan are the most common ignition transformer brands for residential and commercial oil burner applications.

What is a BASO pilot safety control?

BASO pilot safety controls are thermocouple-powered gas safety controls for standing pilot gas appliances — commercial boilers, unit heaters, duct furnaces, and process equipment. The thermocouple generates a millivolt signal when the pilot flame is present, holding open the BASO safety valve. If the pilot goes out, the thermocouple cools, the signal drops, and the BASO control closes the gas valve to prevent unburned gas accumulation. The H15 series and J-series are the most common BASO controls for commercial applications.
