Conbraco Industries is our dominant relief valve line with 2,500+ products. Their safety relief valve catalog covers three major types for boiler and heating system applications:

10-series Hot Water Relief Valves — ASME-rated hot water pressure relief valves in 3/4" through 2-1/2" NPT connections. Set pressures from 30 to 125 PSI with BTU capacities from under 2,000,000 to over 19,000,000 BTU/hr. The 10-600 series covers standard commercial sizes; the 10-606, 10-615, 10-617, and 10-618 series cover larger commercial and industrial capacities.

12-series Steam Relief Valves — ASME Section IV steam pressure relief valves in 3/4" through 2" NPT. Typically set at 15 PSI for low-pressure steam boiler service, with capacities rated in PPH (pounds per hour of steam). The 12-205-08 (2" NPT, 15 PSI, 2,500 PPH) is a common commercial steam boiler relief valve.

Cash Acme manufactures temperature and pressure (T&P) relief valves for commercial and residential water heaters, as well as pressure reducing valves (PRVs) for water systems. Their EB-45 series and related T&P relief valves are widely used on gas and electric water heaters as the required safety device that relieves on both high temperature (210°F) and high pressure (150 PSI) conditions.

Hot Water Relief Valves (ASME Section IV)

Required on all hot water boilers and hot water heating systems. Set pressure must not exceed the boiler's maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP). Available in 30–125 PSI set pressures with BTU capacities sized to the boiler output. Conbraco 10-series and Bell & Gossett 110-series.

Steam Pressure Relief Valves (ASME Section IV)

What is a boiler relief valve and why is it required?

A boiler relief valve (safety relief valve or pressure relief valve) opens automatically when system pressure exceeds the valve's set pressure — releasing water or steam to prevent over-pressurization that could damage the boiler or create an explosion hazard. ASME Section IV requires relief valves on all hot water and steam heating boilers. The relief valve set pressure must not exceed the boiler's maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) stamped on the boiler nameplate.

What is the difference between a steam relief valve and a hot water relief valve?

Steam relief valves (Conbraco 12 and 13 series) are rated for steam service and capacity is measured in PPH (pounds per hour of steam). Typically set at 15 PSI for low-pressure steam heating. Hot water relief valves (Conbraco 10 series, B&G 110 series) are rated for liquid service and capacity is measured in BTU/hr. Typically set between 30 and 125 PSI. You must use the correct type for your system — using a hot water valve on a steam boiler or vice versa is a code violation and a safety hazard.

How do I select the right relief valve for my boiler?

You need three pieces of information: (1) System type — steam or hot water; (2) Set pressure — must not exceed the boiler MAWP on the nameplate (15 PSI for low-pressure steam; 30–125 PSI for hot water); (3) Capacity — BTU/hr (hot water) or PPH (steam) must equal or exceed the boiler's output.
