Fulton Boiler Works — the inventors of the vertical tubeless boiler. In 1947, Lewis J. Palm was managing the Sunlight Laundry of Fulton, New York when the plant's steam boiler failed. The failure inspired him to reimagine the boiler's design — vertically oriented, with a smaller footprint and more reliable construction. Lewis invented the vertical tubeless boiler in a small garage next to his home, building the first one from scrap metal from a local scrapyard. Upon receiving his first sale, he tied the boiler to the trunk of his car and drove it hundreds of miles from New York to Michigan. Within a few short years, the design became the most popular steam boiler for dry cleaners and launderers nationally. Fulton Boiler Works, Inc. was formed in 1949 and has been in continuous production ever since. Today, Fulton is led by the third and fourth generation of the Palm family — headquartered at 3981 Port St., Pulaski, NY 13142, with manufacturing in the USA, Great Britain, and China. Over 75 years of continuous production. More than 100,000 installations worldwide. Many Fulton boilers over 30 years of age are still in operation today. Every Fulton boiler is built and stamped to ASME Code, National Board registered, UL Listed (the entire boiler — not just components), and CSA Approved. Fulton's vertical tubeless design has no tubes or coils to rust or burn out — eliminating retubing costs and the associated downtime.

LWCO Relays Low Water Cut-Off Relays — 2-40-001421 · 2-40-000421 · 2-40-001021

The Fulton Low Water Cut-Off (LWCO) relay is one of the most critical safety components on a Fulton vertical tubeless steam boiler. When the boiler water level drops below a safe minimum — detected by the low water probe — the LWCO relay cuts off the burner to prevent dry-firing and boiler damage. These are the most frequently replaced Fulton boiler parts.

Ignition Electrodes Ignition Electrodes — 2-20-000033 · 2-20-005019 · 2-20-000019

Fulton ignition electrodes create the spark that ignites the fuel-air mixture at burner startup on Fulton gas and oil fired boilers. Fulton service manuals require annual inspection of electrodes for carbon buildup, correct gap setting, and porcelain cracks — cracked porcelain requires immediate replacement. Always replace the electrode if the porcelain insulator shows any cracks.

The Fulton flame rod (2-40-001011) senses the burner flame by ionization current — a fouled or broken flame rod causes nuisance lockouts and failed startups. Fulton gaskets are critical wear items — Fulton service documentation specifies annual gasket inspection and replacement as part of the standard service schedule. The air flapper gasket (2-12-000554), washer (2-22-000038), and screw (2-22-000125) are all replaced together during air damper service.

Fulton Boiler Parts — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Fulton OEM replacement parts, boiler series compatibility, and maintenance requirements. Contact us or call (901) 458-2000 — Memphis Control Center has been serving the boiler industry since 1967.

What Fulton boiler series do these parts fit?

Memphis Control Center stocks Fulton OEM replacement parts primarily for the ICS and ICX Classic Series (gas and oil fired vertical tubeless steam boilers), VMP Series (10–60 HP vertical tubeless steam boilers), and J Series oil fired steam boilers. Some parts also fit the EDR Series. Always confirm compatibility against your specific boiler model and parts list — Fulton part numbers vary between series and production years. Call (901) 458-2000 with your boiler model and serial number for confirmation.

What is the difference between the 2-40-000421 and 2-40-001421 LWCO relays?

Both are Fulton Low Water Cut-Off (LWCO) relays that protect the boiler by cutting off the burner when the water level drops below a safe minimum. The 2-40-001421 is the current production model and replaced the 2-40-000421. A third variant, 2-40-001021, includes a test function that allows periodic testing of the cut-off function without draining the boiler to low water. Before ordering, confirm which relay your boiler uses by checking the control panel and wiring diagram — or call (901) 458-2000 with your boiler model number.

How often should Fulton boiler electrodes and gaskets be replaced?

Per Fulton's own service documentation, annual inspection and service is required. At each annual service: inspect ignition electrodes for carbon buildup and correct gap — clean if necessary, replace immediately if porcelain shows any cracks. Inspect handhole and inspection hole gaskets — replace if any leakage is evident. The air flapper gasket, washer, and screw are typically replaced together during air damper service. Fulton's EDR series has a 12-month maintenance kit (4-50-315300) containing the parts for a full annual service. Call (901) 458-2000 to confirm you have everything needed for a complete Fulton annual service.

What makes Fulton's vertical tubeless design unique?

Lewis J. Palm invented the vertical tubeless boiler in 1947 (Fulton Boiler Works, Inc. was formed in 1949). Unlike fire-tube designs, Fulton's boiler has no tubes or coils in the heat transfer area — nothing to rust out, burn through, or require periodic retubing. This eliminates retubing costs and the associated downtime. Every Fulton boiler is ASME Code stamped, National Board registered, UL Listed (the entire boiler assembly — not just the burner or electrical components), and CSA Approved. With over 75 years of continuous production and more than 100,000 installations worldwide, many Fulton boilers over 30 years of age are still in operation.

I need a Fulton part not listed on your site — can you source it?
