Schaefer Brush Manufacturing (Waukesha, Wisconsin) produces industrial-quality cleaning brushes for HVAC technicians and boiler maintenance professionals. Their flue and boiler tube brushes are the standard for commercial boiler cleaning — designed for heavy use under demanding conditions.
The 43xxx series flue boiler brushes feature spring grade tempered wire, double spiral double stem construction with 1/4" male pipe thread fittings — designed for cleaning flues and boiler tubes with medium level deposits. These brushes connect to extension rods and handles for reaching deep into flue sections.
We also stock extended-length complete units — the 30658 (6ft flue brush with handle), 76220 (4ft furnace cleaning brush), and 76524 (2ft radiator cleaning brush) — as well as extension rods including the 30666 (6ft fiberglass rod) and 43513 (4ft handle) for building out custom cleaning configurations.
Spring grade tempered wire, double spiral double stem, 1/4" male pipe thread. For cleaning boiler flue tubes and heat exchanger tubes with medium-level soot and deposit buildup. Available in brush diameters from ¾" to 3½". Connects to extension rods and handles.
Ready-to-use brush and handle combinations for furnace and flue cleaning: 30658 (6ft flue brush with handle), 76220 (4ft furnace cleaning brush), 76524 (2ft radiator cleaning brush). No additional rods needed.
Extend your reach for deep flue cleaning: 30666 (6ft fiberglass rod, 1/4" connection), 43513 (4ft handle, 9/16" connection). Use with 43xxx series brush heads to reach the full depth of boiler flue sections.
43622 brass brush for ¾" pipe. Used for cleaning pipe IDs and fittings during installation and maintenance. Brass filament for use on softer metals without scratching.
Schaefer lists brushes by the flue OD and the brush diameter. The brush diameter is larger than the flue size to ensure the bristles contact the tube wall. Match the flue size column in the size table to your tube's outside diameter. The 433xx (SS/DS Premium) series has a larger brush diameter than the 432xx (DS/DS) series for the same flue size.
43xxx series flue brushes have a 1/4" male pipe thread fitting — they screw directly into compatible extension rods and handles. The 43513 4ft handle uses a 9/16" connection. The 30666 fiberglass rod uses a 1/4" connection compatible with 43xxx brushes.
The 43xxx series are the standard boiler flue brushes. Listed by flue size (the tube you're cleaning) and brush diameter. All have 1/4" male pipe thread connection and spring grade tempered wire filament.

Common questions about Schaefer Brush flue brushes and boiler tube cleaning. Contact our team or call (901) 458-2000 for sizing help.
What size flue brush do I need for my boiler?
Match the flue tube size listed in the size table to your tube. Schaefer lists brushes by the flue OD (outside diameter of the tube being cleaned) — the brush diameter is larger than the flue size to ensure the bristles contact the tube wall. Common commercial boiler flue sizes range from 1" to 3¾". Note that the 433xx (SS/DS Premium) series has a larger brush diameter than the 432xx (DS/DS) series for the same flue size. If you are unsure of your tube size, call us at (901) 458-2000 with your boiler make and model.
What is the difference between the 432xx and 433xx Schaefer brush series?
The 432xx series (43208, 43212, 43216, etc.) is the Double Spiral / Double Stem (DS/DS) "Master Clean" construction — brush bristles are twisted between four stem wires. The 433xx series (43308, 43312, 43316, etc.) is the Single Spiral / Double Stem (SS/DS) "Premium" construction. For the same flue size, the 433xx Premium series has a larger brush diameter than the 432xx series — for example, 43208 (1¼" flue) has a 1" brush while 43308 (1¼" flue) has a 1½" brush. When ordering a replacement, match the full SKU number from your existing brush to get the same construction and diameter.
How do I use extension rods with Schaefer flue brushes?
The 43xxx series brush heads have a 1/4" male pipe thread fitting that connects to compatible extension rods. The 30666 (6ft fiberglass rod) accepts 43xxx heads via a 1/4" female connection — thread the brush onto the rod, insert into the flue tube, and work back and forth to remove soot. Multiple rods can be coupled for extra reach on longer flue runs.
Why is regular boiler tube cleaning important?
Soot and deposit buildup on boiler flue tubes acts as an insulator — reducing heat transfer efficiency and increasing fuel consumption. Even a thin layer measurably affects performance. Regular tube brushing (typically annually as part of boiler maintenance) removes buildup, restores efficiency, and allows inspection of tube surfaces for corrosion or damage. It is a standard step in most commercial boiler service procedures.
