The most common application is induced draft fan proving and combustion air proving on gas furnaces and boilers — the switch verifies the draft inducer is running before ignition is allowed to proceed. Two variants:
NS2 with fixed set-point (e.g. NS2-1018-00, NS2-0461-00, NS2-1166-00): Factory-calibrated at a specific set point. Part numbers ending in a non-zero suffix (NS2-XXXX-00, -01, etc.) are typically OEM-specified fixed set-point models. What does an air pressure switch do in a furnace or boiler?
It is a safety interlock that proves the draft inducer motor is running before the ignition sequence begins. The inducer creates a negative pressure (vacuum) in the flue pathway. When that vacuum reaches the switch's set point, the switch closes and tells the control board it is safe to open the gas valve and fire the igniter. If the inducer is not running — failed motor, blocked flue, bad capacitor, frozen condensate drain — the switch stays open and the furnace won't fire. This prevents unsafe combustion conditions and carbon monoxide production. Always replace with the exact OEM part number.
Can I replace a fixed NS2 switch with an adjustable kit or AFS switch?
